Issues with bulk import
Coming from deckbox I tried uploading an older version of my inventory. It started off well, mapping columns properly. It took a while to validate the file, which is expected, itâs not exactly tiny. There were thousands of valid lines, but also thousands of invalid lines. And hereâs where the issues beginâŠ
It only showed 5 lines per page. Hundreds of pages. Not particularly reasonable.
Many of the issues were with the edition (e.g. âCollectorâs Editionâ vs âCollectorsâ Editionâ). It would be nice if all such edition mismatches could be solved at once for each such mismatch rather than one-at-a-time.
In some cases (such as âMythic Editionâ) i fixed the edition issue in the CSV, only to have it still fail.
Many of the issues were wrong collector number, but matched a unique card (e.g. Pyramids in Arabian Nights). Being able to pick up the correct card when thereâs only a single match would be very convenient (maybe a checkbox to ignore collector number mismatches?)
I understand cases where there are multiple cards (such as Secret Lair), but when the card is unique this seems solvable programmatically.
Sometimes the card wasnât found at all (e.g. Mana Crypt from The List). I was later able to add this card individually just fine. No idea why it didnât show up when attempting to validate the import.
Some cases the card was found but fixing it made it invalid
Iâve got a french foreign black border card. When i fixed the edition it went from french (as marked in the CSV) to spanish. Okay, maybe you use a different edition, but if french isnât a valid language for that edition, please donât change the language. IMHO (i could be wrong), keep it marked as invalid and keep the marked language. This will at least clue me in that i need to look for a different edition to record it accurately.
Attempting to correct any of these invalid lines took multiple clicks, then the page had to think for multiple seconds before finally allowing me control to do more. I only got through a few pages before I just gave up.
I tried to import what was valid (plus the few invalid entries i had corrected), and after waiting for a bit⊠nothing. Went back to the valid/invalid screen and zero items were imported. This is why this post is listed as a bug report.
I added a few cards via individual searching and filtering, and that was okay. But iâm not going to re-add my entire collection that way. I understand this is a beta. For people with moderately sized collections that theyâre already tracking it may be a bit difficult to switch over. At least, that was my experience.
Separate feedback: please SAML federate the support site to the primary site so that people donât have to create a second separate account just to get support.

Hey, I am sorry you had such a poor first experience trying to import your whole inventory, usually people do not run into those kind of trouble, but I must admin you raised some valid points.
Would you mind sending me your CSV so I can replicate what you experience and come to you with actionnable items so you can complete your import ?
Regarding the issues you raised, our team will be doing some improvements in the coming weeks to make the system better and better.

Iâm willing to send it to you but would rather not post it to a public forum. Is there a way to DM, email, or upload it somewhere privately?

Keeping you posted of the current progress:
I am in the process of finishing a new way that would allow you the expansions that are not valid so you can override those by the one we have in our database.
Already did a lot of improvements to make the performance better so it takes âonlyâ 30~ ish to validate your CSV from the step map to check your results.
Regarding the collection number mismatch and the fact that those coming from your CSV are wrong, I now fallback to the name, but expect some
Multiple matcheserror for the recent expansion as the name only cannot be trusted.Added the
vendorIdlikecardmarketIdtcgPlayerIdandscryfallId, scryfall being the most reliabke one because this is also the databse we are using to get the cards data. On deckbox you get those by doing an export and adding those additional properties (see screenshot enclosed)For the wrong language / version of card and the way we have to fix those through the dialog, now you can pick the language of your choice when overriding no more default to the first language available.
Finally for the final crash, this should not happen and is totally a mistake on our end and I am working to make it as performant and reliable as possible, knowing that we built the system to onboard people with really big inventory so this should not happen.
Overall, you helped a lot pushing through some of the limitations we had making the system as flexible as possible so it can work for every single tool, for every single game, thatâs where the complexity is really.
At the end of the day, many of the errors you have in your CSV are due to the fact that the tool you were using allow you to create wrong version of card that do not exist like
Black lotus Alpha Foil French, those tools gives you flexibility but they are not to be trusted when it comes to being really accurate for your collection management. In the long run we are aiming to become a marketplace, and peopleâs inventory are going to be the root of the sale listing, so we cannot have people trying to sell stuff that do not really exists, that is why we made the system this way.
I let you know once all of that is up and ready so you can give another shot to your import!
Have a great day

I am aware that deckbox allows things that donât exist, but that flexibility also allows them to store cards that most other sites donât even know about which is part of why iâve stayed there so long. Iâve tried a few other competitors over the years and always found them wanting and i donât even have some truly unique things that people might want to track (iâll put in a feature request for those elsewhere).
Sounds like youâve fixed a lot! Iâll give it another shot when i have some time. Thanks for responding.

Iâve fixed it but it is not currently deployed, so please wait for my go to give it a try :)
I understand your needs for flexibility but we cannot be that permissive otherwise it would lead to more problem down the line ^^.
A way to get around the really custom stuff, is to allow you to add comments on each card so you can at least have some kind of flexibility

Thanks for the heads up. Iâll wait to test til given the go ahead.
I also understand. At the end of the day iâd rather a site by stricter with what it accepts if possible. I just havenât yet found a site that can both be strict with what it accepts and understand the bulk of my very real collection. I have no problems if i have to adjust editions of various cards to better match whatâs real (weirdnesses between âforeign white/black borderâ vs foreign 4th ed vs ârenaissanceâ for example).

This post seems to indicate a method of dealing with things i was thinking about (misprints, signatures, altered artwork, grading, and pictures):

So i donât need to open my own suggestion about that. Cool. I may open a suggestion relatedâŠ
